Shri Muktanand College was established in 15th June 1970 from the year of establishment of college, the department of Sociology started. Marathwada Shikshan Prasarak Manadal appointed Mr. P. S. Kamble as lecturer in Sociology on dated 17-06-1970. Mr. P. S. Kamble was the first & only one lecturer initially in Sociology department of Shri Muktanand College. Later on 07-10-1974, Mr. S. G. Satpute was appointed as the second lecturer in Sociology on dated 21-01-1976. But in 1976 Mr. Kamble selected by Maharashtra Public Service Commission as Social Welfare officer. So Mr. Kamble resigned as a Head of the Department of Sociology and joined as Social Welfare Officer in Maharashtra Govt. Mr. Kamble is retired recently as Divisional Social Welfare Officer. After than, Mr. S. G. Satpute was the only lecturer in Sociology till 16-09-1988. Mr. S. G. Satpute transferred in M. S. P.Mandal’s Shivaji College, Parbhani and Mr. Suresh Jadhav appointed in Sociology dept. on 15-07-1989. Mr. Suresh Jadhav was lecturer in Sociology this department for single year again. Mr. Suresh Jadhav transferred in Shivaji College, Parbhani and Mr. S. G. Satpute rejoined in this department on 26-07-1991. Recently Mr. Jadhav received the award from Maharashtra Govt. as ‘Adarsh Shikshak (Ideal Teacher)’. Mean while Mr. R. R. Salunke was lecturer in this department from 16-09-1988 to 10-04-1989 and Mr. S. S. Markar was lecturer in this department from 01-09-1990 to 15-04-1991.

Currently Smt. S. S. Mankar is working as a Head of the Department of Sociology in Saraswati Bhuwan College, Aurangabad, Dr. BabasahebAmbedkarMarathwada University has awarded the Doctorate to Smt. S. S. Mankar in 2003. She completed the Doctorate on “Problems of agitation in the movement of remaining University” Mr. Hamunat Misal appointed as lecturer in this department on 14-08-1991. He has completed M.A. from Marathwada University in March/ April 1991. He was merit second in University having first grade today.

Mr. Hanumant Misal is working in this department. Later on Mr. S. G. Satpute was transferred in Deogiri College, Aurangabad on 07-04-1995. Mr. Dilip Khairnar has joined in this place from Deogiri College, Aurangabad. After the transfer of Mr. S. G. Satpute, Mr. Hanumant Misal is working as Head of the department of Sociology till today. Mr. Misal got the Teacher fellowship of “U.G.C. under F.D.P. on 29-07-2000. Mr. Hanumant Misal had completed his thesis of doctorate in the subject “Mangs in Maharashtra : A Sociological Study of Mangs in Aurangabad city”. He had got Ph.D. from Dr. BabasahebAmbedkarMarathwada University, Aurangabad in 2004. Mr. Dilip Khairnar has also got his Ph.D. on “Ram Mandeer Babri Mashjit Prashna” case study in 2000-01. Mr. Dilip Khairnar is transfer to Shivaji College, Parbhani on 27-07-2003. As per the new policy of Govt. Maharashtra, Dr. Dilip Kharnar presently working M.S.P.Mandal’s Deogiri College, Aurangabad as Reader and Head of the Dept. of Sociology also Director of U.G. and P.G. Research Centre. Dr. Dilip Khairnar Published Eight (08) books and editing one book, Dr. B. S. Manal is appointed as teacher on 03-09-2003 on Clock Hour Basis. Dr. B. S. Manal it was Alumni of this department.

Dr. Hanumant Misal was the in charge of N.C.C. troop as care taker in the college. Another thing is important that, Dr. Hanumant Misal is selected as Principal of this college on 29-03-2007 and now he working in college as Principal and also Head of the Department of Sociology.

Vice-Chancellor is also approval for designation of ‘PROFESSOR’ under CAS Promotion to Dr. Hanumant Misal on 19/11/2019. ( Ref. letter No. DR. BABASAHEB AMBEDKAR MARATHWADA UNIVERSITY ACAD/CAS Approval/PPG/2019-20/8392-401 Dated 28/01/2020.

Mr. Sahebrao Hiwale is appointed as Full Time Lecturer in Sociology on 02-12-2008. He has completed M. Phil & qualified NET examination. His Dissertation is entitled as“Mahatma PhuleYanchya Gulamgiri Granthatil Sanskruti Sangharsh Ani Tyanche Samaj ParivartanVishayakVichar :Ek Samajshastriy Abhyas”. He is programme officer of National Service Scheme unit run by this college.

The Students of Sociology participate in the seminars organized by the S. B. College department of Sociology, Aurangabad. They acting participate in preparing Question bank, group discussion, extracurricular activities, cultural activities etc. Thus the department tries its level best of maintain the quality of higher education.
